Revelstoke Cat & Heli Trip: January 2025

With endless mountain ranges blanketed in huge quantities of snow that is renowned for its frequency and consistency, BC's interior is the heartland of heli-skiing and cat-skiing. In January, when it snows often and conditions are typically DEEP, the old growth forests of the region provide an enchanted playground that make this an annual pilgrimage for many. While it is the tree skiing that defines winters in the interior, during periods of fine weather there is also some incredible alpine terrain.

In January 2025, Elemental Adventure will be hosting a two-part EA exclusive trip that begins with skiing or snowboarding at Revelstoke Mountain Resort where you can brush up your powder skills before taking them to the real backcountry for an incredible few days of cat-skiing or heli-skiing.

Going as part of a group and combining cat or heli-skiing with days served by Revelstoke Mountain Resort's gondola mean this trip is the most cost-effective and time-efficient way of maximising your powder chances next winter. So if you've been wanting to book a trip but the stars haven't previously aligned to make it viable, allow us to align them for you.

This trip is all about maximizing your chances of scoring deep powder in British Columbia’s heartland with a snowcat, helicopter and North America’s tallest lift system at your disposal. The trip will be in two parts - one heli, one cat. You can book one or both.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort

RMR boasts a vertical drop of over 1700m, the biggest in North America, served by a modern lift system and regular heavy snowfalls. Most of the mountain is covered in big trees that make for great skiing in snowy weather. With similar terrain to what you can expect cat and heliskiing in the Selkirks, it is the ideal place to get your ski legs back and perfect your technique for your first few days on snow next winter. Our base will be Sutton Place, conveniently located right at the base of the Revelation Gondola.

The Heliskiing

We'll ski as an "EA only" group of 10 with 2 guides in a Bell 205 helicopter which lifts each day from our hotel and the programme includes unlimited vertical metres. The tenure exceeds 2000km2 with both incredible tree and alpine skiing. The machine will be shared with 2 other groups and will allow us to explore far and wide in search of the best untracked snow.

Cat-skiing

Our cat skiing base is in the remote Bad Shot range of the Selkirk Mountains, a 90 minute drive (and a lake ferry crossing) from Revelstoke. The lodge is simple and rustic with a warm welcome while the cats can take 11 or 12 skiers/snowboarders to access 75km2 of terrain with alpine meadows at the top and well-spaced glades lower down. Each ascent takes 15-20 minutes. There are no vertical metre limits – you just keep skiing as long as your legs and the light allow.

This is not your regular Canadian heli-skiing. This is big wild northern British Columbia and compared to southern BC with all of its heli-ski operations sandwiched together; it’s like a different country.

A more distant, end of the earth type place would be hard to imagine and for the past four years I had dreamed of skiing these gigantic volcanoes that rise so abruptly from the mythical sounding, Sea of Okhotsk.
