Heli-Skiing in Europe

Easy access, rich culture and deep skiing history

The scope for heli-skiing in the European Alps is limited. In France it is illegal and in Italy and Switzerland there are only a handful of designated landings and pickups. That’s not a bad thing. Europe is small and the Alps are crowded so having helicopters flying all over the place dumping people on every peak in sight probbaly isn't a good idea.

With three notable exceptions, European heli-skiing is different because you are almost based in a ski resort, the number of daily runs you can do is limited (but they can be long and you are highly restricted in terms of where you can land and take off. Accessing the Alps however, is quick and easy from most European cities so you can be sitting at your desk one minute and stepping out of the helicopter on top of the mountain another.

Spain, Albania and Turkey offer significantly different styles of heli-skiing to that found in the European Alps - one that is more closely aligned with what you might find in Canada. They offer far greater freedom and flexibility, bigger areas, greater scope for exploration and the possibility to do more runs on a daily basis.
